Mythology and Me

So one of the first big obsessions in my life was mythology. Before I even start on favorite stories and such, I'm going to explain how it became a thing I focused so much of my time on.

I grew up going to Catholic school from kindergarten to my senior year of high school. That's thirteen years of having Catholicism shoved in my face. I don't have anything against the religion, but if you know me personally, you'd know that's how you immediately turn me off from something. The more you push it at me, the more I push it away.

Anyways, so because of literature classes, I found the beauty of Greek mythology. Realistically, it's not beautiful. It is morbid, complex, and a downright mess, but more on that later.

Look! He's having sooooo much fun...

So due to the limits of actual mythology teaching in elementary and middle school, I decided to go research more outside of class. That's when I found out that most everywhere had their own myths and stories to explain the things that happened around them. Sometimes, it was as simple as explaining why spiders spin webs.
(Looking at you, Athena...)

the story of Arachne which I'll bring up another time

Now when I got to high school, a bit more was offered on the subject. When I got to sophomore year, my literature class delved into the importance of creation myths. Then when I got to junior year, I took the mythology class that was offered. It was amazing.

Not only did I learn more about the different cultures of the world, I learned about specific tropes that were common in mythology and which I like the most. The trickster trope used with characters such as Coyote or Loki is something I found extremely entertaining.
(Mostly because I can be a manipulative asshole as well and I'm not afraid to use it)

Especially big in Navajo myths

Really, that's all I'll go into now mostly because I plan to delve so much deeper into this later on.
So love you all and adios!
