This is a dragon, right?
And this?
And obviously this, right?
WRONG!!!
Okay, so technically yes, but also no...
These are all types of dragons, but they aren't dragons at the same time.
Well, actually the last one is... but ignore that for now!
Anyway, time to learn the different types of dragons!
Western Dragons
Western Dragons are what people most typically think of when they imagine a dragon. They have four powerful legs, are scaled, and have wings that are membranous similar to those on a bat.
Wyrms
Wyrms have a long serpent like body with a large head. They tend to be found wrapped around hills and are very hostile to humans.
Wyverns
Wyverns are a bit of a hybrid of the traditional Western dragon. Instead of four legs, they have two and talons attached to their wings. Despite the fact most dragons in TV are described simply as dragons, most typically what is shown is a wyvern.
Amphipteres
Amphipteres are basically wyrms, but they have wings. Even their wings are different as they are as equally likely to be similar to a bat's as they are to be feathered like a bird's.
Drakes
Drakes are often described as similar to lizards just larger and with four powerful legs. They are wingless and tend to be low to the ground.
Sea Serpents
They are most typically just wyrms but in the sea. However, there is a chance that it can have wings along with its fins or webbed limbs.
Eastern Dragons
While specific physical descriptions will vary amongst the Eastern cultures, they tend to be wingless with a combination of different animals' physical features.
Draconic Hybrids
Hybrids are creatures that are technically dragons because they fulfill all the requirements, but don't fall into any specific type. The one above, while it could fall into the category of a Western Dragon, looks far too much like a croc.
Fairy Dragons
Fairy Dragons are very much like Western Dragons except that they aren't much larger than a large butterfly. Their wings are more insect like than bat like.
Ouroboros
While these dragons may have characteristics of other types of dragons, the thing that makes them an Ouroboros is the fact they are biting their own tail.
Hydras
The only thing that makes a Hydra a Hydra is the multiple heads.
Hope you can now tell the difference between dragon types
Love you all and adios!
